Privacy Policy
The Visa Wire (TVW) publishes visa policy news. We collect minimal data, store it narrowly, and never sell or share it for advertising.
This page explains what we collect, why, and what choices you have. Last updated: May 5, 2026.
What we collect
On the public site:
- Pageview analytics via Google Analytics 4 (anonymized; no personal identification sent from TVW). Includes page URL, referrer, country, device type.
- Standard server logs (IP address, user agent, request timestamp) handled by Cloudflare for security and operations. Standard 30-day retention.
For newsletter subscribers:
- Email address (required to deliver TVW Dispatch)
- Optional name (if provided at signup)
We do not collect names, addresses, phone numbers, financial information, or government IDs from public site visitors. TVW does not use first-party tracking cookies; third-party Google AdSense cookies may be served per the Advertising section below. We do not build first-party behavioural profiles that follow readers across the web.
How we use it
Analytics data informs which articles readers find useful, where they come from, and where coverage could improve. Aggregated only — never tied to individual readers.
Newsletter data is used to deliver TVW Dispatch each week. Email open and click tracking (basic; via Buttondown) helps identify which items resonate. Every issue includes an unsubscribe link.
TVW does not directly use reader data for advertising; Google AdSense may serve interest-based ads unless the reader opts out via the links in the Advertising section. TVW does not sell or license reader data to third parties and does not use reader data for AI model training.
Third parties
Four services receive limited data on TVW's behalf:
- Google Analytics 4 — pageview analytics. policies.google.com/privacy
- Google AdSense — programmatic display advertising. See the Advertising section below. policies.google.com/technologies/ads
- Cloudflare Pages — hosting and content delivery. cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
- Buttondown — newsletter delivery (subscribers only). buttondown.email/privacy
Advertising
The Visa Wire is supported in part by programmatic display advertising served by Google AdSense. When ads appear, Google and its certified ad partners may use cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies in your browser to serve ads, measure ad performance, and report on ad delivery.
TVW favours contextual ad selection — ads matched to the article topic — over behavioural targeting that follows readers across sites. Google AdSense may still use cookies for interest-based advertising unless you opt out at the links below.
To control or opt out of personalised advertising:
- Google Ads Settings — adssettings.google.com
- Opt out of Google's anonymous advertising cookies — google.com/settings/ads/anonymous
- Network Advertising Initiative consumer opt-out — networkadvertising.org/choices
- Digital Advertising Alliance consumer opt-out — aboutads.info/choices
See Google's How Google uses advertising cookies page for more on the ad-cookie mechanics.
Reader rights
If you live in the European Union, European Economic Area, United Kingdom, California, or another jurisdiction with data protection laws, you have the right to access your data, correct inaccuracies, delete your data, or withdraw consent (such as unsubscribing from the newsletter).
Email editor@thevisawire.com to exercise any of these rights. We respond within 30 days.
Children
TVW is intended for adult readers. The Visa Wire does not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16 years of age.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, this page is updated with a new effective date. The current version is dated above.
